Beyonce's father given break in child support

A California judge recently ordered a $9,500 cut to the monthly child support payments being made by Mathew Knowles, father of pop star Beyonce Knowles. Knowles had been paying $12,000 a month to an actress, with whom he has one child. Knowles' child was the product of an affair, which became public knowledge in 2009.

In November 2009, the woman named Mathew Knowles in a paternity case. One month later, Beyonce's mother filed for divorce from Knowles, to whom she had been married to for almost 30 years. When it was determined that Knowles was the father, his child support monthly payments were calculated based on his income at the time, which was largely derived from his work as Beyonce's manager.

In 2011, Beyonce fired her dad as her manager, possibly in connection with her parents' divorce. After being fired, Knowles felt he was no longer in a position to keep making the same support payments to the actress.

The judge assigned to his paternity case in the Los Angeles Superior Court agreed, but he was still ordered to pay for his son's mother's legal fees, which amounted to $15,000. A family law attorney may be able to help Orange County residents who believe that they too are entitled to a reduction in their court-ordered child support payments. In California, if a parent can demonstrate a change of circumstances as Mathew Knowles did, such as the loss of a job, then that parent will have a chance of being granted the requested downward modification.
